System requirements

Getting started

  1. Install the desktop client on the machine where you run Claude Code and/or Codex. The latest installer is at modelusage.app/setup.
  2. Start the client. On first run it prints a short pair code and displays a QR code.
  3. Install the Model Usage app on your iPhone (or iPad/Mac/Watch/TV/Vision Pro — they all share one setup).
  4. Open the app, choose Scan QR or Enter Pair Code, and paste/scan the code from the client.
  5. Your usage appears on the dashboard within a few seconds.
No account needed. There is no sign-up, email, or password. Pairing happens entirely through the code issued by your local client.

Pairing with multiple devices

After the first device is paired, other devices can pair from the same client:

FAQ

Is Model Usage free?

Yes. Model Usage is free to download and use. There are no in-app purchases or subscriptions.

Do I need an account?

No. There are no accounts. All pairing is done through a short code from the desktop client.

Do you sell my data?

We don't have your data. Model Usage does not collect, store, or share any personal data. See our Privacy Policy.

Where does my usage data live?

On your own computer (read by the desktop client) and on the server you point the client at. The server can be your laptop, a home server, or a VPS you operate. Nothing goes to ModelUsage.

Can I self-host?

Yes — in fact that is the default. The desktop client can run its own local server. A remote server is only needed if you want your data reachable from outside your home network.

Does Model Usage work without internet?

On the same Wi-Fi as your computer: yes. Remote (cellular) access requires your server to be reachable over the internet.

Where can I download Model Usage?

Model Usage is available on the App Store. Download the latest public release there.

Your data

Model Usage reads your Claude and Codex usage from the local files those tools already store on your computer. The desktop client summarizes the numbers and sends them to the server address you chose. The mobile, tablet, desktop, watch, TV, and headset apps read those summaries from your server.

The full policy is at modelusage.app/privacy.

Deleting your data

Because Model Usage does not store your data on our servers, there is nothing for us to delete on our end. To remove Model Usage's footprint from your own devices and server:

  1. Uninstall the app on each device. On iOS, touch and hold the app icon, then Remove App → Delete App. On macOS, drag the app to the Trash. On watchOS, open the Watch app on iPhone and remove Model Usage. On tvOS/visionOS, delete from the Home Screen.
  2. Stop and uninstall the desktop client. The client's data lives under ~/.modelusage-client (macOS/Linux) or %USERPROFILE%\.modelusage-client (Windows). Delete that folder to remove local client state.
  3. Stop your server. If you were running the bundled server, it stores data under the server process's configured data directory (by default alongside the running script). Stopping the process and deleting the data directory removes anything cached server-side.

If you want written confirmation for a compliance process, email [email protected] and we'll respond with a statement confirming we hold no data on you.

Accessibility

Model Usage supports Dynamic Type, VoiceOver labels on dashboard controls, Reduce Motion for animated transitions, and high-contrast colors for the rate pills. If you hit an accessibility issue, please email [email protected] — we treat accessibility bugs as first-priority.

App Store

Model Usage is now available on the App Store for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Vision Pro.
