Contact us
The fastest way to reach us is email. We're a small team and reply personally — typically within one or two business days.
- Support: [email protected]
- Privacy questions: [email protected]
- Data deletion: [email protected] (see Deleting your data)
When you email us, please include:
- Device and OS version (for example, "iPhone 15 Pro on iOS 26.2").
- App version (Settings → About inside the app).
- A short description of what you expected and what happened.
- If the issue is pairing-related, whether the desktop client is running and on which platform.
System requirements
- iPhone / iPad: iOS or iPadOS 17.0 or later.
- Mac: macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, Apple silicon or Intel.
- Apple Watch: watchOS 10 or later.
- Apple TV: tvOS 17 or later.
- Apple Vision Pro: visionOS 1.0 or later.
- Desktop client (required for data): macOS, Windows 10/11, or a modern Linux distribution.
- Network: a server you control that the desktop client can reach. Local network is fine; a remote server works too.
Getting started
- Install the desktop client on the machine where you run Claude Code and/or Codex. The latest installer is at modelusage.app/setup.
- Start the client. On first run it prints a short pair code and displays a QR code.
- Install the Model Usage app on your iPhone (or iPad/Mac/Watch/TV/Vision Pro — they all share one setup).
- Open the app, choose Scan QR or Enter Pair Code, and paste/scan the code from the client.
- Your usage appears on the dashboard within a few seconds.
Pairing with multiple devices
After the first device is paired, other devices can pair from the same client:
- Same household, same Wi-Fi: generate a new pair code in the client — each code is single-use — and enter it on the next device.
- Apple Watch: pairs through its iPhone automatically once the iPhone is paired.
- Apple TV / Vision Pro / Mac / iPad: install the app and enter a fresh pair code.
- Long-lived code (for reviewers): the client can generate an App Review Code that lasts longer than a standard pair code. See the inside-app setup screen for the command.
Troubleshooting
"Could not connect to the server"
- Confirm the desktop client is still running on your computer.
- Confirm the device is on a network that can reach your client's address.
- If you're using a local IP, make sure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi and the client's firewall allows inbound connections on the configured port.
- If you changed the server URL, open the app's Settings and re-enter it, or scan a fresh QR code.
Pair code not working
- Pair codes are short-lived and single-use. Generate a fresh one from the desktop client and try again.
- Codes are case-insensitive but must be entered exactly, without extra spaces.
Widgets aren't updating
- Open the main app once. Widgets reload on each app open.
- Long-press the widget, choose Edit Widget, and make sure a model (Claude / Codex / both) is selected.
- Remove and re-add the widget if it was installed before you paired.
Live Activity won't start or is stuck
- Enable Live Activities: Settings → Face ID & Passcode → allow Live Activities; and Settings → Model Usage → Live Activities turned on.
- If a Live Activity seems stuck, swipe it off the Lock Screen, then reopen the app to start a new one.
- iOS caps Live Activities at 8 hours; expect the card to auto-dismiss after that.
Apple Watch complication is blank
- Open the Watch app on iPhone, select a complication face, and pick a Model Usage complication.
- If it stays blank, open the app on Apple Watch once so the usage can be fetched.
iMessage extension doesn't appear
- In Messages, tap the + button, then More, and turn on Model Usage.
- If you just installed the app, close Messages fully and reopen it.
Incorrect or stale data
- Tap the refresh button on the dashboard to force an update from your server.
- Your data is read by the desktop client from the official Claude and Codex tool files on your machine. If those files haven't updated yet, the app won't show new numbers.
FAQ
Is Model Usage free?
Yes. Model Usage is free to download and use. There are no in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Do I need an account?
No. There are no accounts. All pairing is done through a short code from the desktop client.
Do you sell my data?
We don't have your data. Model Usage does not collect, store, or share any personal data. See our Privacy Policy.
Where does my usage data live?
On your own computer (read by the desktop client) and on the server you point the client at. The server can be your laptop, a home server, or a VPS you operate. Nothing goes to ModelUsage.
Can I self-host?
Yes — in fact that is the default. The desktop client can run its own local server. A remote server is only needed if you want your data reachable from outside your home network.
Does Model Usage work without internet?
On the same Wi-Fi as your computer: yes. Remote (cellular) access requires your server to be reachable over the internet.
Where can I download Model Usage?
Model Usage is available on the App Store. Download the latest public release there.
Your data
Model Usage reads your Claude and Codex usage from the local files those tools already store on your computer. The desktop client summarizes the numbers and sends them to the server address you chose. The mobile, tablet, desktop, watch, TV, and headset apps read those summaries from your server.
- We don't run a cloud service that stores your data.
- We don't collect analytics, crash reports, or telemetry.
- We don't use advertising or tracking SDKs.
- Push notification tokens are registered with Apple's APNs and forwarded to your server so it can update Live Activities. They are not shared with third parties.
The full policy is at modelusage.app/privacy.
Deleting your data
Because Model Usage does not store your data on our servers, there is nothing for us to delete on our end. To remove Model Usage's footprint from your own devices and server:
- Uninstall the app on each device. On iOS, touch and hold the app icon, then Remove App → Delete App. On macOS, drag the app to the Trash. On watchOS, open the Watch app on iPhone and remove Model Usage. On tvOS/visionOS, delete from the Home Screen.
- Stop and uninstall the desktop client. The client's data lives under
~/.modelusage-client(macOS/Linux) or%USERPROFILE%\.modelusage-client(Windows). Delete that folder to remove local client state. - Stop your server. If you were running the bundled server, it stores data under the server process's configured data directory (by default alongside the running script). Stopping the process and deleting the data directory removes anything cached server-side.
If you want written confirmation for a compliance process, email [email protected] and we'll respond with a statement confirming we hold no data on you.
Accessibility
Model Usage supports Dynamic Type, VoiceOver labels on dashboard controls, Reduce Motion for animated transitions, and high-contrast colors for the rate pills. If you hit an accessibility issue, please email [email protected] — we treat accessibility bugs as first-priority.
