ModelUsage does not collect, store, or share any personal data. The apps and desktop client are designed so that your Claude and Codex usage data never leaves the devices you control.
What we collect
Nothing. We operate no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporters, no advertising SDKs, and no third-party trackers. We do not maintain user accounts, and we do not ask for an email address, phone number, or any other identifying information to use the app.
How your usage data flows
- The desktop client reads your local Claude/Codex usage files on your own machine.
- It sends that data only to the server URL you configure — by default, a server process running on your own machine or one you operate.
- The iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS apps read from the server you paired with. Pairing happens locally via QR code or a short-lived pair code.
- No usage data is transmitted to ModelUsage.app or any third party.
iMessage app
The iMessage extension sends a usage snapshot only when you explicitly tap "Send Snapshot". The snapshot travels through Apple's iMessage service to the recipient you choose. ModelUsage has no server-side access to message contents.
Push notifications
If you opt in to Live Activities, the app registers a push token with Apple Push Notification service (APNs) and sends it to your paired server so that server can update the Live Activity. The token is scoped to Apple's APNs and is not sold, shared, or used for marketing.
Diagnostics
We do not receive automatic crash reports. If you report an issue to us directly, any information you send (for example, logs or a description of the bug) is used only to diagnose that specific problem and is not retained beyond what is needed to resolve it.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and note what changed.
